Basics
- Connect to Internet
- Download and install Windows updates
- Configure Automatic updates to Notify but not install
- Turn on Windows Firewall
- Download and install PC vendor updates
- Remove unwanted software that came with PC
- Verify Page file size
- Verify System Restore settings
- Set Recycle Bin size
- Configure IE Temporary Internet Files settings
- Configure Defrag settings
- Install printer
- Install Productivity Suite if it did not come with PC
- Install and/or configure email program
- Use Windows Easy Transfer tool to move folders, file, data, and application settings from old computer to new
General Tweaks
- Turn off unneed Windows features such as Tablet PC Components, DFS Replication, and Remote Differential Compression
- Install USB Flash Drive and activate ReadyBoost
- Turn off indexing
